We have lots of fruit growing in various areas around the place, I thought I show an update how its all developing
This is part 1 of the fruit on plot will do another post tomorrow.
Down in the orchard is a mix of Apples and Pears, some of the apples are a cider apple collection off Kev over on English Homestead,
The trees are all in flower, some of the new trees off Kev are also in flower but I am going to nip the flowers off as I need them to develop a good root system before bearing fruit
There is a very busy top bar bee hive in the orchard,
The 101 cherry trees planted around the perimeter of the arena field have all come on great a few years and they should start producing blossom
they are planted all the way along this fence line and up the other one in the distance
Into the fruit cage
The Blueberries look like they are going to give a fantastic harvest
they are a mixture of early mid season and late fruiters
they are laden with flowers
The Guava berries are still in pots, I have a spot picked out for them and they will soon be in the ground.
There is only 3 apple trees in the fruit cage
I have two of these that produce a beautiful dark pink blossom and the leaves are tinged with red, I can remember the name will have a look at the tag tomorrow
This apple tree is a step over it has moved house with me three times and survived being dug up each time
The Blackcurrant bushes were cuttings I took 2 years ago off an old bush I found in the garden, they are going to be allowed to fruit this year for the first time.
I have three sweet cherry trees in the fruit cage and they are just coming into flower
The strawberries are all putting on lots of growth and just starting to produce buds
This end of the fruit cage is all looking great, it has been mulched with wood chip from the hedge lines and brush we have been cutting down
The rest of the fruit cage is a different story and I will show you tomorrow along with other fruit areas.
I love to see blossom on the trees Dawn...apple being a particular favourite.

DeleteLove that amount of fruit. I increased ours loads this year, but want more soft fruit. Do you think the gauvas will do okay int he ground? I've been thinking the same about mine, maybe I'll take soem more cuttings, keep them in hte greenhouse and see how the others do outside.

DeleteDo the 101 cherry trees produce edible cherries? If so are you going into the cherry selling business sometime down the line? You have such a great selection of fruit available to you that you have planted on your land!
ReplyDeleteThe cherries are edible, not planning to go into cherry farming, I am expecting the birds to take the majority of them :-) except the three i have in the cage

DeleteI never knew about not letting them fruit so they set good roots. I just let mine get on with I'm but then I'm only a very part-time gardener!
