The first lot of chicks I hatched out in the incubator have now been moved outside into the broody house they still are under heat although its turned to low now.
Today they ventured out on to the doorstep of there new home
They have reached that ugly lanky teenage stage.
The two broodies that I popped chicks under are now one broody
There was one broody who was not very nice she was always trying to peck me when I took eggs away, when I opened the little house she was in with the chicks she flew out in a rage and ran for the hills, she has now re-joined the flock, bad mama she turned out to be, she is still broody so tomorrow she is off to chicken jail.
The nice broody who purred when chicks went under her has now adopted all 10
today she brought them outside
and the new family enjoyed the sunshine together
last year I set up a dog poo composter
today I emptied out the first two trays from it
No smell, crumbly and looked good
and was full of worms
I have been forking it into one of the flower borders.
I ave had a success with the Turmeric
Its growing away lovely
and the ginger
This year I bought organic tubers
the problem with the supermarket ones is a lot of them are sprayed with growth inhibitors to extend there shelf life,
I hope I can get the ginger to flower,
I will wait until they have put on a lot more growth then I will transplant them to larger containers.
The weather is still very dry lots of sunshine, the water tanks are down to there last few drops.
I want to get veg plants out but need to wait until we have some rain otherwise I will be watering them constantly.
Tomorrow I will get some photos done from in the fruit cage there is lots going on in there 👩📸
So glad to read this post, I've been waiting to hear how your chicks are doing. Great news with the roots, I grew lemon grass a couple of years ago from supermarket purchase.
ReplyDeleteI tried Lemongrass last year it was slow to gt going but it did in the end
DeleteGreat to see the new chooks. Love that the dog poo worked so well for compost and look forward to seeing the fruit cages.
ReplyDeletefruit is the next post
DeleteThe dog waste composter is a brilliant idea, its something that's lots of dog owners could do. The councils should encourage it by giving the equipment to households like other recycling boxes!
ReplyDeletea great idea but most people wouldnt bother
