Yesterday we went to pick up Merlin
What a handsome fella,
He is here on loan a bit of a blind date for the girls, see those lips curl he starting wooing before introductions were made
And that long beard is suppose to be white, Billy's urinate on there faces, well they also urinate in there mouths and then spray it over themselves, makes the smelly and irresistible to girls, smelly he is there is no doubt about that.
Thelma was interested straight away, Connie was just giving him a wide berth, we still don't know if she is in kid although her girth is getting wider, we should know by the end of this month, if she is she is due 22nd of December.
Merlin is staying for 4-5 weeks, he is also up for sale so who know he might become a permanent resident.
The last two lambs went to slaughter, I started processing the fleeces yesterday, first stage is the salting.
Martin is butchering today.
Parsnips were on the dinner plate last night, they are a lovely bunch and a good size, I also added some Jerusalem Artichokes and some Oca to the roasting pan, now the frost is knocking everything back its time to add them to the menu.
Diary
Saturday 27th November 1982
John put Magic with Lucky and Misty with Sunny suckle, we also had some milk for ourselves. All walked out and checked the sheep, went to Carmarthen did some shopping, had coffee,
very misty and cold in town, home late afternoon.
John put calves in again to suckle, had tea, did collis and sprouts for the freezer, bought some granary flour and made two loaves.
Yum. I LOVE parsnips but I don't think there is space to grow them this year. Good luck with Merlin and the girls!
ReplyDeleteMerlin has been busy already
DeleteParsnips look amazing. Its a good job the girls like smelly with all that urinating going on. I hope Merlin does the business and you get the kids you want.
ReplyDeletelooking forward t some new kids on the block
DeleteI can smell him from here!! In all our 20 years of goat keeping we managed to avoid keeping a Billy by taking our girls to one instead. Col said NEVER in a 1000 years would he have anything to do with looking after a billy! and as I was never strong enough for hoof trimming I had to go along with his wishes.
ReplyDeleteI dont think we are keeping him, it was easier to bring him here for a while than transporting girls
DeleteWell Merlin looks like he knows what is expected of him doesn't he?....lol.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I could cope with the smell. My stomach gets more ticklish the older I get-x-
I dont find him too bad, Martin does not like him
DeleteMales do have funny ways! I should keep him as a lodger rather than a house guest. x
ReplyDeleteits just as well he is not near the house
DeleteWell, your lodger looks delighted to have some ladies for company. At least you should get a good indication of who's going to come into season and who's not. I think I have escaped lightly, never having been downwind of a billy . . .
ReplyDeleteGosh, those are huge Parsnips! Well done with having such a productive plot.
The parsnips have been great this year
DeleteWe have two bucks and a smelly yard right now. I'll be glad when rut is over!
ReplyDeleterather you than me it was bad enough with the three young ones when they were trying to impress
DeleteI rather like Merlin, although after what you say about smell, perhaps he is more attractive in a blog post than in real life.
ReplyDeleteHe is very sweet although looking at the practical side he wont be staying
DeleteI agree with The weaver of grass..I'm glad blogs don't come with scratch and sniff...he's fine to look at from my screen ha!
ReplyDeleteHe is a fine big strong billy and the girls like him
DeleteI miss our two nanny goats. We always knew when it was time for them to go to the buck when the full moon was out. You should make some money hiring Merlin out.
ReplyDeletewe could but dealing with him every day on my own is not practical
