Today we went to collect our new additions
4 gilts
10 weeks old
Welsh x Pietrain
All settled into there new home doing what pigs do best grubbing up the ground looking for goodies to eat,
Although the neighbors are not impressed
The goats were just snorting in disgust
Not impressed at all with there neighbors
The Alpacas all straining to see what was going on in the paddock
Then started alarm calling.
Sol just wanted to join in and share in what they were eating.
And before anyone asks yes they are all destined for the table.
When we get round to keeping our own and breeding we will be getting Tamworths.
Oink oink. So exciting!
ReplyDeleteshould be oink oink oink oink
DeleteFilling up nicely, Sol will keep an eye on them all.
ReplyDeletehe will if it means he gets to share there food
DeleteGorgeous....I just want to cuddle them all-x-
ReplyDeletethey now let us give them all a rub down
DeleteDo you have lots of freezer space or will you stagger culling? I'm so excited for you Dawn! I've always wanted to grow my own meat, pigs are on the list!
ReplyDeleteAnd happy belated birthday for yesterday! Hope this is a wonderful year for you!!
Slaughter will be staggered, we are not keeping them all only one for us.
DeleteWhat amusing photos...animals really do have expressive faces. I'd never heard of the pietrain breed of pig...do they make good pies or something? Last time we kept pigs they got far too fat...gamekeeper gave them a bucket of food each time he passed I should think...will you be sausage making in the future...and brawn? x
ReplyDeletePietrain are a breed from Belgium they are a leaner pig, the first ones we did were a bit on the fat side.
DeleteRaising your own pigs for food is great. You'll know they have been well fed and have been cared for. We are in the city and have no space for pigs but maybe one day we'll have chickens, for eggs, not meat.
ReplyDeleteYes we will know everything about our meat
DeleteThis will be us come March so I will follow with interest. They look great.
ReplyDeletelooking forward to you getting yours
DeleteI'm interested to see how the pigs get on in the coming weeks. Do you send them to the abattoir all at once and process them or do you stagger it?
ReplyDeleteThey will be staggered
DeleteHappy birthday for yesterday🎂
ReplyDeleteThe piggies look cute but would nevertheless make a great bacon sandwich. I know they'll have a great life before that happens.
I am looking forward to a few good hams, they have nice shapely hams
Deletethank you
