Join Sol and me on an afternoon walk
Turn right out of the drive and walk down the road
Off down the track into the forest
The sun is shining and the air is still
Following the path up to the top we look across the valley
In the distance the group of trees marks the entrance to our drive
we continue down into the forest,
the gorse is in flower and buzzing with bees
I like to think they are our bees,
Its close enough to be our bees.
There is a small stream that carries the run off from the hills
Sol likes to have a paddle
and a quick drink to quench his thirst
and the only way to really cool off is to lay down in the water
We walk on to our turning point,
enjoying the views of the valleys and hills stretching out before us
heading home we jump the muddy puddle
Which is full of frog spawn
And tadpoles
Sol finds another pool of water to wash his stick,
he likes to dip his sticks in water
Heading home with the moon in the sky on one side and the sun shining on the other
The air was heavy with the scent of garlic
wild garlic we found a lovely patch growing
I picked a handful
To enjoy with scramble eggs sausage and bacon for tea.
First bit of wild foraging of the year,
Lovely it was too.
I hope you enjoyed a afternoon stroll with Sol and me.
Lucky you we have had a dull day, but we were busy so it did not matter. You should keep your skirts just in-case you become a lady farmer.
ReplyDeleteYes you never know :-)
DeleteA beautiful spring day, what a lovely walk, all those tadpoles , beautiful views and dear Sol seemed to be having doggy fun bless him.
ReplyDeleteThere is always lots to see when we are out and about
DeleteWhat a lovely walk you two had.
ReplyDeleteIts always great fun walking with Sol
DeleteVery pretty terrain. I can't believe you didn't take a dip with Sol though!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Garlic leaves were edible I thought only the root part was.
Wild garlic otherwise know as Ransoms is a distant relative to chives, its the leaves that are used the bulb is so tiny and soft its best left in the ground to grow another day.
DeleteI didn't realise that you had so much wild and beautiful countryside around you, Dawn, and sharing your walk with you was a real treat!
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky with our location close to sea, forests moors hills and mountains a good mix of everything
DeleteGreat minds think alike Dawn ;)
ReplyDeleteYes :-)
DeleteGlorious open country Dawn - and I love the tadpoles. But that last photograph with the garlic/eggs, sausage and bacon - oh how I drooled.
ReplyDeleteThe tadpoles have been early this year
DeleteA lovely early spring walk!
ReplyDeleteRansoms don`t seem to grow here, in our acid New Forest soil. I can imagine how delicious they were in your scrambled eggs.
We are on acid soil they are usually found growing in verges or broad leaf woodland rather than forest
DeleteMy most successful foraging always seems to be blackberries but I must get myself a little book and look for more interesting things. Could you suggest one?x
ReplyDeleteOne f the best books I have come across is Little gem book Food For free, lots of good detail photographs and small enough to take out with you
DeleteThanks Dawn. I knew you'd know!x
DeleteNice walk. I always fancy making a pesto from it.
ReplyDeleteI did do pesto last year, got wild garlic soup planned for some this week end
DeleteThat was a lovely walk thankyou. I loved seeing what you see most days. I will be looking out for wild garlic, I have never found any but there's always a first time.
ReplyDeleteIf you would like a clump to grow on let me know
DeleteHi dawn. How funny as I have just posted on a later post of yours that I was googling wild garlic today ready to go hunting for some when we're off. I've never seen it before so not sure what to look. Now I have your pics I can compare. What a beautiful walk x
