The other day when I went to bring some onions in from the barn,
I noticed that some were starting to sprout,
The weather has been so mild its bring on growth early,
I have gone through the onions, any still dormant have been put into fridge
The others have been chopped up and into the freezer,
chopping up so many onions in one go, I had tears streaming down my face,
I kept sniffing as I was chopping and Sol was sitting at my feet he kept looking up a me tilting his head to the side, the onions didn't make him cry.
I needed some for the pot of Chili I was cooking, the recipe said serves 4, its seems to me there is about 6 portions, I will have one tomorrow for dinner and the others I will pop in the freezer for a later date or I might can it tomorrow.
I had to go into Swansea this morning, it was smelly, crowded and noisy and felt very closed in,
I was glad I was just dropping off a sewing machine to be serviced, unfortunately it was a 4 hour round trip, it didn't leave much time for anything else. I have to go back again next week.
I did get info transferred to the new calendar
We bought one of the calender's that was produced in the village.
Money goes to the restoration of the village park.
I also got a bit of paperwork done
Sheep and Goat Inventory for the Agricultural dept Welsh Government
It didn't take long having only 2 goats, I think this requirement is done twice a year.
Now a bit of a mystery, who has been sleeping here
The past couple of mornings when I have gone out to the barn were the goats are, in the pile of straw someone has been making a bed, the same bed has been made in one of the Alpaca shelters in the straw, I have filled it in each morning and next day its there again.
It is defiantly getting colder, and it has been trying to snow but nothing to write home about,
the sun came out today most welcome today.
'who has been sleeping here'?
ReplyDeleteDawn, that's the invisible chicken who has been, of course, laying invisible eggs!
wish it would make invisible holes then I wouldnt be so curious :-)
DeleteGlad you trip out went well. xx
ReplyDeleteunfortunately it has be repeated next week :-(
DeleteDawn
ReplyDeleteWhen I prepare onions or pickled onions I pop what I am going to prepare in a bowl of boiling water wait and hour then peel them. It makes them easier to prepare but you do not want to leave them any longer than you have to, but it does seriously help me. I start crying as soon as I look at an onion. Take care - glad you got on okay today. Pattypan x
another one to try thanks :-)
DeleteI found a great way to not have tears when chopping onions. I have a disability and have to sit on a stool in the kitchen - it is about 24" tall - a little shorter than the size you'd use at a kitchen bar - by sitting on the stool it keeps my head (nose) below the onions instead of standing over them as one usually does when chopping onions - no tears as the onion scent wafts right above your head and to the ceiling. I think the same thing could be accomplished by sitting at a table.
ReplyDeletenow I know why Martin dosent cry he is usually sitting at the table to peel and chop :-)
DeleteJust looking at your onions made me cry!
ReplyDeleteSome onions I grew before didnt make me cry at all cant remember what they were
DeleteI was struggling cutting just two last night! I always tell myself to batch chop them for the freezer x
ReplyDeleteI am forever saying I must batch chop but very rarely get round to it :-)
DeletePeeling onions is pretty high on my list of jobs I don't like doing. I only had to peel two yesterday but that was quite enough for me. They went into a chilli too.
ReplyDeletePeeling the onions for pickling has to be the worse :-)
DeleteI hate chopping onions, and someone always rings the doorbell when I have tears streaming down my face!
ReplyDeleteSod's law or is it Murphy's law :-)
DeleteSome years ago I had a big panic attack in the huge Tesco store in Swansea. I really don't do noise and crowds.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been awful
DeleteI know the crowded, smelly dislike. I do find I hate going in to public places more and more tiresome.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through Sue's and plan on going back through your older posts for hints and tips are we are just starting on our little adventure.
just been over to have a look, good luck for friday :-)
DeleteI feel the same about towns - I never go to one now without feeling shut in.
ReplyDeleteThat sweet little hole surely belongs to some small mammal who has chosen your 'house' for his/her winter home!
Another new hole today think we will set up a camera and spy :-)
DeleteYears ago a farmer told me this...peel the onion but leave the root end intact to the very last chop. It works every time...haven't shed a tear since...
ReplyDeletei will give that a try :-)
DeleteYour chili looks delicious and heartwarming. Onions do make me cry as well, and I am noticing that the cold and the wind also make me teary eyed. :)
