A Wet Day Keeps Me In

Today it has been very wet all day, it was expected, my day was planned out in advance. Last night I let the Rayburn go out
This gave me a chance this morning to give it a good clean out and clean the flue, I got half a bucket of soot out of flue, The sweep is due next month,  the flue and soot box I do clear out on a regular basis, and the sweep pays us a visit twice a year.
She is now running lovely again.
It was then a trip into town to pick up some supplies, no point in wasting a fine day going into town.
When I got back I got started on making some Granola
I used this as a basic recipe Granola Recipe and added dried blueberries dried apples and cranberries that I had in store and chopped nuts instead of the coconut.

Next I got started on some mincemeat for Christmas,
I used Mary Berry's recipe here Mincemeat I omitted the peel and added cherries
It was smelling really Christmassy in the house while I was making this, It makes a change for me to get it made this early its usually an after thought and then its too late to make it.
I will be donning full waterproofs later for a wet walk with Sol, his favourite part of walking in the rain is getting towelled off when we get home, shame he cant do the same for me :-)

  7. I make an uncooked mincemeat, stored in a big earthenware jar, which I just add more fruit to, starting with layers of early windfall apples. shout if you want the recipe.

Thanks for including the link to the granola recipe. I shall make some of that tomorrow.

Wet days are for catching up (I nearly went grocery shopping too) and I have been shortening the hem on one of Tam's dresses today, and making pizza for supper.

  8. Ooh yummy, lovely seasonal smells!. I make my mincemeat in about November and love seeing it stored in the cupboard ready for mince pies and for presents of Christmas hampers. Also, our new house has a Rayburn like yours but a slightly lighter blue. Can't wait to get used to it!

  10. Oooh I bet it smelt gorgeous in your house yesterday. Nice to be so prepared and spend a day doing all the indoor jobs.

My dogs hate being towelled dry, two of them have seriously tickly feet too so it's a hot sweaty struggle to get them all done before I peel off my wet things and collapse in a heap :-)
