Using Up Radishes and Working Alpacas

I put the girl Alpacas to work this morning,  thought it was time they earned there keep
Using hurdles I closed off the area around the poly tunnel and made a chase run from there field, they can now take down all the grass for me, they went through without hesitation.

Radishes I had about 10 left that needed using up, the next crop are coming on great, I used the radishes up this morning in a really easy recipe

Radish and Carrot Sweet Chutney
  • 1 cup Grated radish
  • 1/2 cup Grated carrots
  • 1.5 cups Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Red chili flakes, if you like more heat add more and less then half the qty
  • 2 Cloves of garlic, finely chopped or grated
  • 2 tablespoons Corn Flour
  • 1 teaspoon White distilled vinegar
  • 1tablespoon of cumin seeds
Mix the cornflour with the water, Add all the ingredients to a saucepan stir in the cornflour over a medium heat, stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved and it has all thickened up.
Pour into sterilised jars will keep up to a year
Very tangy a bit like sweet and sour with a bit of a kick

  1. Sounds like a great way to make so peppy pickle and to use your radishes! I imagine that you have already eaten a lot! I hope that you have a great weekend! xx

  2. I never have any radish to spare, I am a bit greedy and eat them like a child with sweets. I do have a few sowings that are playing catch up so will try to make this before i start chomping away at them.

  3. Good way to use your alpacas, I do the same with chickens. Does the wool make them worth keeping?

    1. The fleece does make them worth keeping, the fleece is worth more than sheep fleece :-)

  4. I had radishes that need using up, might have a go, the hard thing is stopping hubby eating before it has matured.

  7. We can only grow an early crop of radish because they tend to bolt once it gets hot. But I shall keep that recipe for future use.
